Traditional Guesthouses
Kinmen National Park has seven relatively well-preserved traditional settlements. In addition to the Minnan (Southern Fujian) and Western-style buildings and historic relics of the settlements, local residents have preserved the traditional spatial layout, clan system, folk festivals and feng shui (geomantic omen) belief, forming a rich folk culture.

After military rule was lifted on Kinmen many old houses were rebuilt to meet the needs of residents or allowed to become dilapidated due to property rights issues, causing the traditional settlements to begin to gradually fade away. To allow these precious traditional building and their cultural splendor to be preserved permanently so that future generations can appreciate the wisdom of our ancestors, Kinmen National Park HQ is actively promoting old buildings restoration and reuse. In addition to reusing the restored building as exhibition halls, the national park headquarters has also entrusted buildings to the private sector to be used as tea houses, themed shops and guesthouses.

Kinmen National Park Headquarters is promoting “Traditional Guesthouses” to give people who have never had the opportunity to stay in a traditional Kinmen house a chance to experience the life wisdom of our forefathers and feel how important the passing on of culture is regarded by the local people, while also aiming to provide employment opportunities in the settlements and lead to the preservation of traditional settlements being given more importance.
