Kinmen National Park Headquarters and Guningtou Community Development Association hold a joint beach cleaning activity

To enhance the partnership with local community and effectively tap civil group resources, on the morning of December 8, Kinmen National Park Headquarters held a joint beach cleaning activity with Guningtou Community Development Association on the coast at Andong No. 1 camp. As well as members of the Association, locally stationed 7th Special Police Corps police, Headquarters employees and outsourced cleaning personnel also took part, around 150 people. Over 1000 kg of debris was cleaned up.

Marine ecological conservation is an issue of concern around the world, with one of the urgent issues marine debris. The national park has a coastline of 40.43 kilometers and is close to Mainland China and the Jiulong River basin so debris is easily carried to Kinmen by the tide. To keep the coast clean, since 2014 a budget of NT$6 million has been allocated annually to clean up floating debris. In 2020, under the Ocean Taiwan policy, a grant of NT$3.5 million was received from the Executive Yuan to increase the scope of cleaning up of floating debris. In 2021, in cooperation with the Kinmen and Matsu Office of the Northern Region Branch of the National property Administration, non-listed land was brought within the scope of cleaning and cleaning frequency increased. A contract was also awarded for the regular cleaning up of floating debris.

The Headquarters stated that it is hoped this beach cleanup activity will help keep the beaches of the park clean to increase travel quality, as well as make people attach more importance to conservation of the marine ecological environment and cherish marine resources so that future generations can sustainably manage the precious resources given by nature.
