Kinmen National Park 2021 High school Student Biodiversity Science Education Activity successfully completed

Kinmen National Park Headquarters held the 2021 High school Student Biodiversity Science Education Activity September 18-19. Thanks to 15 local students for taking part in the activity held on the eve of Mid-Autumn Festival and to related units for their assistance. The event was completed successfully!

During the activity, Hsu Wei-chun, Station Manager, Ocean Affairs Council, introduced the creatures of the tidal zone. The lively teaching materials and interpretation  made the tidal zone accessible and full of interest. Person in charge of Guningtou Diary Cultural Studio Li Gui-rong shared the life experience and observations of Guningtou traditional settlement, showing students the traditional wisdom of local people that allowed them to use tidal zone natural resources and coexist with the natural environment. Also, Kinmen County Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Association director Huang Fu-yu taught a course on rescue of injured animals and showed students how to report the matter if they find an injured animal so it can be rescued.

As well as indoor courses, students went to the tidal zone at Beishan for ecological observation. Led by an experienced oyster farmer, they went onto the oyster field, experienced oyster picking, and were shown the strong connection between the traditional use of natural resources and local life culture. After the activity, students arranged, discussed and shared their records of ecological observation and conducted more in-depth discussion of the concept of biodiversity. Each student was presented with a certificate after the activity.
