2021 World Wetlands Day - Leisurely Tour of the Wetlands New Blue Ocean

The global initiative of UN's the Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) once estimated the economic value of wetlands. The ecological functions of wetlands can be directly converted into actual economic value. Through sensible use of wetlands, agriculture, fishing, travel, aesthetics and creative and cultural related industries and economies can be created, allowing wetland related industries to leave behind the red ocean and open up the blue ocean, co-existing and co-prospering with peripheral communities. Hoping to pass on related concepts to the public through a World Wetlands Day activity, the Leisurely Tour of the Wetlands New Blue Ocean was held.

To echo World Wetlands Day, promote the wetlands conservation concept, promote the wetlands conservation mark, put into practice public participation (promote from the north to central, southern and eastern Taiwan,) and assist with the development of local distinctive industries, this activity invited various agencies and city governments to share successful wetland coexistence cases. In the one-day promotion activity, Taiwan’s wetland environment and ecological characteristics were promoted to citizens. In line with the central Epidemic Control Center’s COVID-19 epidemic prevention guide, the activity was held in the outdoor square of Taijiang National Park HQ Visitor Center.
