Cutting Down of Dead Trees to Prevent Pine Wood Nematode to be Carried Out in Zhongshan Forest in Kinmen National Park

 To prevent the spread of pine wood nematode in Kinmen National Park’s Zhongshan Forest, affected dead trees will be chopped down from November 15 to December 31. Visitors are remined to stay away from this area for their own safety.
Zhongshan Forest is a pine tree forest completed in 1967. It became an important place for forest recreation and leisure on Kinmen. Kinmen National Park Headquarters replaced the child play facilities this year and provides them for family fun in combination with the ecological environment. To provide visitors with a safe recreational environment, work will be carried out to chop down the dead trees affected by pine wood nematode.

The Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan pointed out that the prevention strategy for pine wilt includes eliminating the source of infection, preventing the spread of disease and increasing the disease resistance of pine trees. At the present stage, eliminating the source of infection is the most effective. Since pine wilt was diagnosed,the park HQ has carried out annual prevention and removal work to slow the spread of disease and has allocated an annual budget for tree cutting work. The aim is to eliminate pine diseases and pests to improve the scenery of Zhongshan Forest and protect the forest ecological environment.
