Kinmen National Park Headquarters, Kinmen County Morality and Filial Piety Promotion Association, Chunghwa Telecom and other groups cooperate for a beach cleaning activity

To enhance partnerships with the communities in the park and effectively combine the resources of civil groups, a beach cleaning activity was held by Kinmen National Park HQ on the coast at Citi on the morning of September 15, 2022. Participants included Kinmen National Park HQ staff, outsourced cleaning staff and marine debris cleaners; also invited were organizations, groups and private enterprises such as the 4th Kinmen police division of the seventh special police corps, Kinmen County Morality and Filial Piety Promotion Association and Chunghwa Telecom Kinmen branch; around 150 people took part in all and more than 220 kg of rubbish was clean up.

Marine ecology conservation is a focus issue globally, with marine debris the priority problem. Kinmen National Park HQ has 40.3 kilometers of coast in its jurisdiction and is close to the Jiulong River basin and Xiamen; marine debris is easily caried by the tide to Kinmen’s seashore. To protect the coastline environment since, 2014 Kinmen National Park HQ has allocated around NT$6 million annually for clearing up marine debris. In 2020, answering the government’s Ocean Taiwan policy, funding was obtained and the scope of clearing of coastal marine debris was expanded. From 2021, in cooperation with the Kinmen office of the Northern Region Branch of the National Property Administration, NT$2.55 million was provided to include unregistered land in the clean-up scope and to increase the frequency of cleanups to enhance execution of marine debris clean-up work.

Kinmen National Park HQ said it hopes the beach cleaning activity will keep the seashore in the park clean to increase recreation quality and awaken people’s awareness of the importance of marine ecological environment conservation so that future generations can sustainably manage the precious assets given by nature.
