To deepen the concept of battlefield site preservation, Kinmen National Park Headquarters’ Military Site Exploration-2022 Kinmen Military Property Lecture Series has begun online

From July to August 2022, Kinmen National Park Headquarters has planned the Military Site Exploration-2022 Kinmen Military Property Lecture Series has begun online to continue to spread knowledge about battle sites, deepen the understanding of Kinmen battlefield culture of all circles and enhance the concept of military property preservation. Experts including Director of the Department of Architecture of National Quemoy University and director of the Battlefield Historical Site and Minnan Architecture Research Center Tseng Yi-ren, General Cheng You-liang, councilor Dong Lin-bao and Dr. Du Cheng-yu have been invited to present 11 lectures.

Due to its proximity to China, most of Kinmen is within artillery range. To prevent enemy landing and damage from artillery, multi-layer defensive formations were adopted. On the coast where the enemy would be engaged, multiple lines of defense facilities were adopted to prevent Communist forces landing; anti-air assault stakes and bunkers were placed in fields with machine gun pillboxes placed at road junctions and on high ground; the terrain was used to protect artillery positions; military barracks were hidden underground, with a large number of tunnels and underground facilities.

At tgheir height, there were more than 100,000 military personnel based on Kinmen. As well as dense fortifications, fortifications, spiritual slogans and streets and recreation places serving soldiers could also be seen all around in villages. Facilities established for military use or built to commemorate battles include the broadcast towers used to broadcast propaganda, radio station, recreation centers, battle museums, memorials and military cemeteries, all representing Kinmen’s history of the last half century and more.

Kinmen National Park HQ said that the lectures will be given on the Google Meet platform on July 6, 7, 8, 13, 16, 22 and 29 and August 5, 11, 12, 20 and 26 (lecture link: https://meet.google.com/etz-dsgt-nmc) from 19:00 to 21:00. It is hoped, through in-depth lectures, to share the knowledge and experience of experts in different fields so that students can obtain deep and precious knowledge of military property and nurture more battlefield site guardians.
