2023 Annual Bed & Breakfast and Retail Shop Evaluation Results for Kinmen National Park Announced: Experience Traditional Settlements and Battle Site Culture in Kinmen
The Kinmen National Park Headquarters and National Park Service have announced the results of the 2023 Bed & Breakfast and Retail Shop Evaluation. This evaluation aims to enhance the restoration and revitalization of traditional buildings and military sites, strengthen the operational management capabilities of bed and breakfast and retail operators, and build partnerships between the government and community to preserve Kinmen's cultural heritage. Since 2009, the headquarters have organized the evaluation and rental of bed and breakfast and retail properties, supporting improvements in service quality, implementing environmental protection and plastic reduction measures, and promoting sustainable tourism. The best-performing businesses receive Gold and Silver Quality Awards as part of these efforts.
In 2023, a total of 76 bed and breakfasts and 16 retail shops participated in the evaluation conducted by the headquarters. After thorough on-site visits and assessments by the evaluation committee, all participants met the required standards, leading to the selection of Gold and Silver award winners.
The award-winning bed and breakfasts excelled in maintaining and managing traditional architecture, creatively designing interiors, prioritizing customer service quality, and promoting bicycle eco-tourism. They actively hosted community-oriented activities such as music concerts, theatrical performances, children's summer art camps, parent-child education seminars, and guided settlement tours, offering unique local recreational experiences. Award-winning retail shops distinguished themselves by utilizing local ingredients to craft specialty meals, developing various cultural and creative products that highlight Kinmen’s unique characteristics, and establishing art and cultural display spaces. They have also innovatively integrated military bunkers into their operations, combining ecological conservation with diverse revitalization efforts.
The Kinmen National Park Headquarters encourages the public to visit the official website to learn more about these outstanding bed and breakfasts, retail shops, and recreational opportunities.
The headquarters emphasized that these businesses have adopted sustainable operational models, collaborating with local industries to boost the regional economy, foster community consensus, and preserve settlement cultures. These efforts not only allow more visitors to understand the principles behind preserving and revitalizing Kinmen's traditional buildings and military facilities, but they also contribute to Taiwan's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
