Kinmen National Park's "2024 Shooting Experience Environmental Education Program" Introduces Students to the Historic Battle of Guningtou
From September 10 to 24, 2024, the Kinmen National Park Headquarters and National Park Service organized the "2024 Shooting Experience Environmental Education Program" at the Guningtou Camp Area. Approximately 500 students and teachers from National Kinmen Senior High School participated in 12 sessions of this event.
This year's program celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Guningtou. It aimed to help participants understand the historical significance of the battle while also highlighting the strategic importance of the military camp. Activities included interactive and fun experiences such as water-balloon shooting and solving ammo-box puzzles, which engaged participants in both history and creative problem-solving.
The Headquarters explained that, in addition to static exhibitions, they continue to design diverse and creative activities focused on unique military historical sites to engage visitors in meaningful ways. The objective is not only to commemorate important historical events but also to promote environmental education and conservation. Throughout the event, participants learned about fundamental concepts such as net-zero carbon emissions, natural carbon sinks, and plastic reduction, helping them understand the importance of preserving battle sites as well as modern conservation efforts.
This program, which combines history, military heritage, and environmental awareness, provides a valuable learning experience, encouraging the next generation to appreciate and protect both the cultural and natural heritage of Kinmen.
