Kinmen National Park Headquarters Holds "Taiwan Wetland Conservation Sharing Lecture" Inviting Communities Around Cihu Wetland to Participate

To enhance the understanding and environmental awareness of residents in communities surrounding the significant Cihu Wetland, Kinmen National Park Headquarters (the HQ) under the Ministry of the Interior's National Park Service held the "Taiwan Wetland Conservation Sharing Lecture" on the morning of June 21, 2025. The event invited Lin Kun-hai, Secretary-General of the Kaohsiung Wild Bird Society, who is involved in wetland conservation, to be the speaker. The lecture was held in the audiovisual room of the Shuangli Wetland Nature Center, where the conservation status of Taiwan's wetlands was shared with residents from the Hufeng, Guningtou, and Xiputou communities in Jinmen Township. Approximately 50 enthusiastic participants attended.

The lecture was organized by the HQ in collaboration with development associations of communities around the critical Cihu Wetland, aiming to help the public understand the role of wetlands in natural ecosystems and recognize Taiwan's precious wetland resources. Speaker Lin guided the audience through the characteristics of various wetlands in Taiwan, introducing the significant values of wetlands and the challenges posed by development. He also mentioned that Taiwan's wetlands are currently facing multiple threats, including photovoltaic development, a reduction in wetland area, and invasion by alien species. Many precious species, such as the black-faced spoonbill, are seeing their habitats gradually shrink, putting their survival at risk.

The lecture concluded with an interactive Q&A session and a quiz with prizes. The HQ stated that it will continue to hold activities related to the Cihu Wetland in the future, with the hope that more people will engage in wetland conservation efforts to protect the natural environment on which we all depend. Through this lecture, not only did residents gain a better understanding of wetlands, but an important step was also taken to promote local sustainable development.
