Heard There Are Lions on the Island? "The Story of the Island's Lions" – A Joint Picture Book Exhibition by Kinmen and Taijiang National Parks Opens February 18

The Kinmen National Park Headquarters (the HQ) of the National Park Service, Ministry of the Interior, launched the "The Story about Lions of the Island" – Kinmen × Taijiang National Parks Joint Picture Book Exhibition on February 18, 2025. Historic Western-style buildings have been revitalized and repurposed as exhibition spaces to introduce the public to the cultural similarities and differences between Kinmen and Taijiang, particularly their traditions of apotropaic (evil-repelling) symbols.

In 2025, the HQ continues the theme of the 2024 joint picture book exhibition with Taijiang National Park, drawing from the picture books "Dressing Up the Wind Lion God" and "Grandpa's Secret Base". Incorporating elements of the Wind Lion Gods and Sword Lions, visitors are invited to follow the story's main character, Jiamei, on a magical dream journey exploring the relationship between the natural environment and local folk culture. Interactive exhibits offer additional insights beyond the books, enabling the public to gain a deeper understanding of the cultural similarities and differences between the two regions. The exhibition is held at the newly renovated Jinshui Story House, now an environmental education space where visitors can explore the legends of the Wind Lion Gods and Sword Lions.

The HQ announced that during the opening period (February 18 to March 2), to give back to the community and promote Kinmen's unique cultural heritage, visitors can go to the "Themed Photo Zone" on the 2nd floor of Jinshui Story House, take a photo with one of the Wind Lion statues, upload it to Facebook, and leave a comment with "#HeardThereAreLionsOnTheIsland" to receive a special gift (while supplies last!).
