Galloping Horses Welcome the Lunar New Year: Kinmen National Park Exhibition Sites Open During the Spring Festival (Closed on Lunar New Year’s Eve Only)
To accommodate the large number of visitors and provide quality recreational services, the exhibition sites and visitor centers of Kinmen National Park will remain open during the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday period. The only closure will be on February 16 (Lunar New Year’s Eve) for internal maintenance. The park’s visitor centers and exhibition sites will remain open from February 14 to 15 and from February 17 (the first day of the Lunar New Year) to February 22 (the sixth day of the Lunar New Year). Service hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Note: Jinshui Elementary School Exhibition Hall and the Overseas Chinese Culture Exhibition Hall are currently under renovation and are closed to visitors.) Some historic homestays managed by Kinmen National Park will also remain open during the Lunar New Year period. Visitors interested in experiencing traditional Minnan-style courtyard homestays may contact the homestay operators directly for reservations. Contact details are available on the official Kinmen National Park website under the homestay information section: https://www.kmnp.gov.tw/ch/hotellist/homestays
As a large number of tourists are expected during the holiday period, the Kinmen National Park Headquarters under the National Park Service of the Ministry of the Interior (the HQ) will cooperate with the Kinmen County Police Bureau and the Fourth Brigade of the Seventh Special Police Corps of the National Police Agency to implement traffic control measures. In addition, coordination has been made with the Kinmen Defense Command of the ROC Army to temporarily open the roads on both sides of the Taiwu Cemetery as a temporary parking area from February 17 (the first day of the Lunar New Year) to February 25 (the ninth day of the Lunar New Year), for nine consecutive days, from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Visitors planning to hike are advised to follow traffic control guidance and are encouraged to use public transportation. The HQ also reminds visitors that if they wish to park near the Taiwu Cemetery area, the site lies within a military-controlled zone managed by the Kinmen Defense Command. Therefore, visitors must present identification proving they are ROC nationals at the checkpoint before entering to park. Non-ROC nationals should disembark before reaching the checkpoint, and the ROC national driver may proceed inside to park the vehicle.
The HQ further reminds visitors to choose legally registered travel agencies and accommodation providers when traveling to Kinmen and to purchase travel insurance according to their needs to ensure travel safety. Currently, three hiking trails on Mount Taiwu are officially open to the public: the Taiwu Mountain Hiking Trail (Yuzhang Road), Cai Cuo Hiking Trail, and Doumen Ancient Trail. These routes are regularly maintained and equipped with clear directional signs and distance markers. Visitors are welcome to enjoy hiking along these designated routes.
During the Lunar New Year period, Kinmen experiences the northeast monsoon season. Visitors are advised to pay attention to weather changes, prepare windproof and warm clothing before departure, bring necessary personal medications, and be mindful of traffic safety. Weather conditions during the holiday period can be checked through the Central Weather Administration’s “Weather On Demand Platform.” For more information about visiting Kinmen National Park, please visit the official website (https://www.kmnp.gov.tw) or call the visitor service hotline at +886-82-313100.
