Kinmen National Park Headquarters, National Park Service cooperated with the Shanhou Community Development Association and Anlan Elementary School in Jinsha Township, Kinmen County to organize a beach cleaning activity

To strengthen the interactive relationship with the various communities in the park and effectively combine the resources of civil society, Kinmen National Park Headquarters, National Park Service (the Headquarters) held a beach cleanup activity along the coast in front of Haigong, Shanhou Township, Jinsha Township on the morning of May 17, 2012 (Wednesday). In addition to the employees and the sea debris cleaning staff, Shanhou Community Development Association, Anlan Elementary School in Jinsha Township, Kinmen County, Kinmen County Environmental Protection Bureau, Jinsha Township Office, Taiwan Electric Power Co., Ltd., Cathay Life Insurance Co., Ltd. and other government agencies and private organizations and companies participated in the event, with about 170 people participating, and a total of about 283.5 kilograms of garbage removed.

Marine ecological conservation is currently a matter of global concern, with marine garbage being a primary issue that needs attention. The Headquarters, with its 40.43-kilometer coastline and proximity to the Jiulong River Basin in Xiamen, mainland China, faces the challenge of marine garbage drifting to the Kinmen coast through tides. In an effort to maintain the cleanliness of the coastline environment, collaborate with the implementation of the Executive Yuan's "Ocean Taiwan" policy, and secure funding for expanding coastal debris removal efforts, The Headquarters has joined forces with the National Property Administration of the Ministry of Finance. Together, they are working to clean up coastal debris on state-owned non-public lands within the park, have included unregistered areas in the cleaning scope, and have increased the frequency of cleaning activities. This initiative aims to enhance the effectiveness of seaborne garbage removal work and contribute to the preservation of marine ecosystems.

The Headquarters stated that in addition to picking up beach garbage, classifying and filling out the results statistics form, this beach cleanup activity also shared the beach cleanup results with Anlan Elementary School students and participants, and uploaded statistical data to the Ocean Conservation Administration,to provide marine debris monitoring data and contribute to marine pollution research and investigation. The aim is to improve the quality of the recreational environment through coastal beach cleaning activities so that our descendants can sustainably manage the precious assets given by nature.
