Kinmen National Park Headquarters, National Park Service and Guning Elementary School jointly set the roots of ecological conservation Oganized Cihu Wetland ecological promotion activity

The Kinmen National Park Headquarters, National Park Service (the Headquarters) organized the "Cihu Wetland Ecological Promotion Activity" in conjunction with teachers and students of Guning Elementary School on the afternoon of June 6, 2012. Senior students from Guning Elementary School were invited to lead the tour; participants visited Cihu to learn about the habitat types of Cihu, birds, aquatic creatures and the surrounding environment of Cihu.

This activity was divided into four parts. It commenced with a bird-watching course. Students utilized telescopes to observe common birds such as black-winged stilt (himantopus himantopus) and yellow-bellied prinia (prinia flaviventris) that were present on that day. The instructor provided bird pictures and explanations, allowing the students to learn how to identify these birds. The second part of the activity involved an aquatic life investigation. Students were guided to observe aquatic life in Cihu Lake. They used the sieving method to collect snails and shellfish and then employed picture cards and explanations from the instructor to identify aquatic life on-site. Students were able to identify creatures like Batillaria zonalis, Cerithidea cingulata cingulate, Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum), and other shellfish. Part 3 focused on a water quality survey. Through hands-on testing, students gained an understanding of the relationship between water quality parameters such as water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, turbidity, and the survival of aquatic organisms. The final part, Part 4, utilized the food web to integrate the course, enhancing students' comprehension of Cihu conservation concepts.

The Headquarters emphasized that Cihu, a crucial habitat for Kinmen's birds, was promoted through the "Cihu Wetland Ecological Promotion Activity." This event aimed to cultivate students' motivation to protect Cihu's rich ecology and will be open to the general public in the future. Principal Huang Yun-yun of Guning Elementary School mentioned that recent outdoor experiential teaching activities have enabled participants to understand Cihu's environmental conservation and biodiversity.
