Safety Measures: Removal of Private Climbing Ropes on Taiwu Mountain by Kinmen National Park Headquarters, National Park Service

The Kinmen National Park Headquarters, National Park Service (the Headquarters), has officially designated three hiking trails on Taiwu Mountain as open for public use. These trails, namely "Taiwu Mountain Hiking Trail (Yuzhang Road)," "Caicuo Hiking Trail," and "Doumen Hiking Trail," are subject to regular maintenance and management. Additionally, comprehensive guidelines and mileage markers have been installed for the convenience of visitors. The public is encouraged to explore these designated routes for mountain climbing activities.

On the state-owned land managed by the Headquarters on Taiwu Mountain, it was found that private individuals had illegally set up climbing ropes on their own. With the assistance of the Kinmen County Fire Department in the inspection, ropes were found in three places at parcel number 381-3 and 370-1 in the Dashan section and parcel number 99-1 in the Qingtian section. To avoid accidents caused by improper use by the public or tourists, the Headquarters will follow the conclusions of the "Taiwu Mountain Open Climbing Area Seminar" held by Kinmen County Government on May 5, 2023 and will remove private climbing ropes to ensure climbing safety.

For Taiwu Mountain, a designated special scenic area, strict regulations are in place as per Kinmen National Park's resource protection and utilization control principles. Visitors are required to stay on designated trails and within defined landscape areas. Activities like forest logging, spray painting, and other forms of destruction are strictly prohibited. Unauthorized installation of artificial facilities, such as climbing ropes, is not allowed. Warning signs have been placed along the Taiwu Mountain open trails to indicate these rules. It's important to note that accidents occurring outside the designated open trail may not be eligible for state compensation, as per the National Compensation Law. Therefore, it's essential for individuals to choose safe and approved routes for mountaineering activities to ensure their safety.
